About Our Study
Speech Processing Study Hits Funding Milestone - NIH Grant Marks 25th Consecutive Year Prof's Work Has Received Support
The Children's Speech Processing Lab at the University of Texas at Dallas (UTD) conducts studies with children ages 3 to 14. Our projects are carried out in collaboration with the Central Institute for the Deaf (CID) in St. Louis, MO, a world-renowned school for children with hearing loss. We test the children with normal speech and hearing at UTD, where the experimental procedures were developed, and CID tests the children with hearing loss.
We are looking at children's listening abilities and their understanding of some basic words. For the main part of the study, we go into a sound booth. Children look at pictures flashed on a computer screen and name them as quickly as possible. In addition to the picture-naming task, children also complete hearing, vision, and vocabulary screenings. We are happy to report these screening results to you.
