How can I be involved?

Our success in learning more about what promotes healthy development is dependent on families who are willing to help us! We have several on-going research projects that we welcome families to participate in. If you are interested in participating in a study or finding out more, please email us at healthydevelopmentproject@gmail.com.  You may also call the lab and speak with a research assistant at (972) 883-6073 or call Dr. Holub directly at (972) 883-4473.

                        PARENTS' FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Will my child like participating?

We create each study with children in mind. We have carefully developed games, questions, and experiences for a child to participate in that will help us to learn about child development. These sessions are designed to be interesting and engaging for your child. At the end of sessions, children usually report that they have had fun and can't wait to visit us again!

How old are the children in your projects?

Children in our studies are between the ages of three and eight years-old.

Will my child be in a safe environment?

Our lab is specifically designed to be a child friendly, safe environment.  Our lab is placed in a private suite in Green Hall (on the UT Dallas' main campus in Richardson). We have colorful rooms equipped with various toys and games. We even have a child's restroom that is "just their size"! We always allow and encourage parents to actively participate with their children; we even have an observation window that allows parents to watch their children participate in these fun games!

What types of activities will my child participate in?

In order to better understand children’s attitudes and behaviors, we interview children individually and ask them to participate in a variety of age-appropriate tasks.  Since most of the research tasks are presented in a game format, many children find these activities fun and engaging. When arriving in the lab, parents will be briefed on the specifics of the particular study and the activities their child will be involved in. We are always happy to answer any questions you may have at any time during the study.

What if my child does not want to finish or we have to leave before the end of the interview?

Parents and children can leave at any time under any circumstances.

Will I be compensated for participating?

Each study compensates participants differently. For example, participants have received gift certificates, cash, or have been entered into a raffle in the past. Participants are informed before coming into the lab if they will be compensated for their time and travel.

Will I be informed about the results of the study my child participates in?

After participating in a study, you will have the option of providing us with your contact information. When the research is completed, we will send you a report of our study findings. Individual children are never identified in publications or in conference presentations.

Can I bring my children with me even if they will not be participating?

You are welcome to bring your children with you. Children can play with games and toys that we have available in the waiting room. If you are also interviewed as part of the study, we can arrange for one of the research assistants to care for children who are not participating in research activities. Please let us know in advance if you will need childcare.
