The Communication Sciences and Disorders Ph.D. program offers doctoral study in language, speech, and hearing science and in the disorders of language, speech, and hearing. Students with interests in language development and disorders, speech production and perception, neurolinguistics, auditory neurophysiology, and aural habilitation will find a wide variety of course work and research opportunities. Areas of particular research emphasis include: autism and other pervasive developmental disorders, cochlear implants, tinnitus, hearing aids, language and aging, and traumatic brain injury. An extensive patient population is accessible through two locations, Dallas and Richardson, of The UTD Callier Center for Communication Disorders (a component of the School of Behavioral and Brain Sciences). At the UTD Callier Centers and The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, adjacent to the Dallas Callier location, students have access to the research laboratories that provide a rich environment for basic and applied research. Opportunities for interdisciplinarity are available through course work in Psychological Sciences and Cognition and Neuroscience and through an emphasis in Child Language Development and Disorders.
