Sarah Crow, a University of Texas at Dallas doctoral student in the School of Behavioral and Brain Sciences, received a student scholarship award for the American Cochlear Implant Alliance’s CI2023 conference, to be held in June in Dallas.

Crow, a third-year doctor of audiology student and first-year speech, language, and hearing science PhD student working under associate professor Dr. Andrea Warner-Czyz, serves as the national member relations chair for the Student Academy of Audiology. Warner-Czyz said Crow “exemplifies the type of clinician-scientist we need in the field.”

“Her determination and enthusiasm to better understand communication and psychosocial outcomes of children who are deaf and hard of hearing permeates both her clinical and research endeavors,” Warner-Czyz said. “She thinks critically about her clinical experiences to generate her research questions, and her research will benefit clinical practice.”

At the conference, Crow will give a presentation titled “Progression Through the Pediatric Minimum Speech Test Battery: A Look at Pediatric Cochlear Implant and Hearing Aid Users with Genetic Hearing Loss and Comorbid Conditions.”

“As a student, conferences are a great opportunity to expand my knowledge, meet other students and network with professionals,” Crow said. “The American Cochlear Implant Alliance is an organization that supports students and professionals in a variety of professions that provide care to individuals with cochlear implants. By attending and presenting at this conference, I can learn from interdisciplinary team members and improve my clinical and research skills.”

The American Cochlear Implant Alliance is a not-for-profit membership organization created with the purpose of eliminating barriers to cochlear implantation by sponsoring research, driving heightened awareness, and advocating for improved access to cochlear implants for patients of all ages across the U.S.

Also at the conference, BBS professor Linda Thibodeau, PhD and associate professor Andrea Warner-Czyz, PhD will present on Post-implantation Therapy Benefits Adults Too.
