Diane Milot Tucker Scholarship
Diane Milot Tucker, my mom, instilled a belief in me that anything is possible.
She was a single parent, raising two kids while working full time, and still achieved her goal of earning an associate degree. It was not easy; it took many years. But when time allowed, she would scrape together any extra money to pay for tuition and books, and she would be in class working toward her degree.
My mother died suddenly when I was just a teenager. Her belief in the importance of education — along with my memories of her hard work and sacrifice — encouraged me to complete my degree program.
During my time at UT Dallas, studying for a bachelor’s degree in psychology, I also worked full time, and there were semesters when I depended on financial aid to pay for tuition and books. That aid was the only way I was able to earn my degree — something I wanted to achieve for myself, and I knew my mother would want for me as well.
Now that I have a successful company of my own, it is my honor and responsibility to give back and support others to reach their educational goals. In doing so, I want to recognize and honor the person whose influence and guidance supported me in achieving my goals: my mother, Diane Milot Tucker.
–The scholarship was established by alumna Nicole J. Tucker (BA ’04) in memory of her mother.
